POTSDAM, NY – Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon Dragos Macelaru, MD, FRCPSC, has joined the Orthopedic team at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. His office is located at the Helen Snell Cheel Medical Campus, 49 Lawrence Avenue, Potsdam.

Dr. Macelaru is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and is furthermore a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPSC). He earned his medical degree at the Medicine and Pharmacy Institute of Bucharest, Romania; and was further educated at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, where he also completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Macelaru said St. Lawrence Health provides excellent resources, equipment, and support for the orthopedic team to care for their patients. He further noted he is excited to get to know the residents of the North Country.

“It means a great deal to me to meet new people and know them as individuals, and not just my patients,” he said.

Dr. Macelaru said his decision to become an orthopedic surgeon stemmed from when he was very young, being an avid reader, and knowing he wanted to do something where he could be a “positive character in the story of my life.”

“Being an orthopod is so interesting; the tools and equipment we use assists in repairing and strengthening the human body. There are relatively quick results in orthopedics and most often we provide our patients with an improvement to their lives. All medical specialists make a difference in the lives of their patients, mine just offer quicker results,” Dr. Macelaru chuckled.

Dr. Macelaru is a specialist in diagnosing orthopedic problems, performing or prescribing treatments, and assisting with rehabilitation. He assists his patients in developing long-term strategies to treat illnesses, disorders, and issues relating to their bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Individuals experiencing pain or discomfort relating to movement should seek medical care from an orthopedist.
