POTSDAM, NY – St. Lawrence Health is excited to welcome its two newest Hospitalists to its medical team. Sarthak Patel, MD; and Roshanak Salehi, MD, are both practicing at Canton-Potsdam Hospital (CPH).

Dr. Patel and Dr. Salehi went to medical college together, both earning their medical degrees from Saba University School of Medicine, Saba, Caribbean. They further both completed their residency programs at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV; and are members of the American Association of Family Practitioners.

The two became loyal friends and colleagues throughout their years of education together, eventually even becoming brother- and sister in-law; another testament to the trust and respect they have for each other and their families.

“We are still really good friends, and we rely on each other as colleagues,” Dr. Salehi said about Dr. Patel. Their career paths continued to intersect and brought them both to Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

"After graduating from residency, I was looking to work at an institution that promotes building continuous patient-provider relationships. St. Lawrence Health’s Canton-Potsdam Hospital is providing me with a platform to practice comprehensive and coordinated medical care through an inpatient unit,” Dr. Patel said.

Dr. Salehi noted her visit to CPH showed her the St. Lawrence Health organization was what she was looking for.

“It was easy to see that CPH operates with a culture based on staff working together as part of a greater family to do the best for each of their patients. This was very important to me, as I think ‘best care’ is a combined group effort, which CPH certainly delivers,” she said.

“The North Country also has a lot to offer in terms of outdoor activity and being able to enjoy nature, which I am grateful for and will be utilizing,” she continued. “The people I have met so far have been quite friendly and welcoming, which makes me feel part of the community already.”

Dr. Patel also noted the people and small town feel of the area were a bonus to what he experienced during his interview with the Hospital.

“The fact the North Country makes for a perfect community setting to raise a family is a cherry on top," he said.
