CANTON, NY – Two St. Lawrence Health registered nurses continued on with their education, and are now working as Nurse Practitioners in specialty service lines at the St. Lawrence Health Medical Campus, 6119 US Route 11, Canton.

These two women who once collaborated as teacher-student in an educational environment, have become colleagues working together in a Canton-Potsdam Hospital healthcare facility.

Jamie Gibson is now a Nurse Practitioner in the Infectious Disease department through St. Lawrence Health. She began working at Canton-Potsdam Hospital in 2004, then later worked at Gouverneur Hospital before leaving the system for a few years to complete her Master of Science in Nursing Education at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Utica, NY; and becoming an Assistant Professor of Nursing.

Ms. Gibson returned to CPH in 2017, and earned her Family Nurse Practitioner Post Master’s degree at SUNY Binghamton, Binghamton, NY.

Having been born and raised in the North Country, she said that when looking at her career and community “this is home, this is family.”

“After working at Canton-Potsdam Hospital for nearly 18 years, I know first-hand the high quality of care that is provided to all patients within the St. Lawrence Health system. I am thankful to have the opportunity to continue providing exceptional care for members of our community,” Ms. Gibson said.

She noted that while working as an adjunct professor at SUNY Canton, Ashley Casselman was one of her students.

“A lot of Canton-Potsdam Hospital employees were my students, and now I work with them. I know their skills and qualities; it is like I have an inside look at who they are from a different perspective,” Ms. Gibson said.

As an NP in Infectious Disease, Ms. Gibson prevents, manages, and treats infectious diseases.

Ashley Casselman began her career with Canton-Potsdam Hospital (CPH) in 2015 and has progressively moved her way into her current role as Nurse Practitioner in Neurology.

Mrs. Casselman started working at the Hospital as a Nurse Aid, then moved on to become a Registered Nurse and Charge Nurse within the facilities. She continued on with her education and earned her Masters of Science in Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioner degree from SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY.

“I have been a part of Canton-Potsdam Hospital for over six years as a Registered Nurse and have enjoyed caring for patients during their hospital stay. I fully believe in patient-centered care; listening and treating patients with their lifestyle and needs in mind,” NP Casselman said.

“I look forward to working with the Neurology team at CPH, and delivering quality care to patients in the region. As a North Country native, I enjoy the small town atmosphere,” she added.

As an NP in Neurology, Mrs. Casselman specializes in assessing, diagnosing, and assisting in the management of neurological disorders.
