RGH Becomes Certified Advanced Thrombectomy Stroke Center

TSC certification identifies RGH as a facility that performs EVT, the emergency procedure to remove blood clots.

The TSC certification identifies RGH as a facility that performs endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) the emergency procedure to remove blood clots, improving quality of life for stroke patients in the region by providing access to this disability-saving procedure.

Time is of the essence when treating patients who suffer from strokes. As many as one-third of acute Ischemic strokes are caused by a blockage of the large artery leading to the brain.

To become an advanced TSC, RGH was required to meet the following stringent criteria:

  • Demonstrate compliance with the new standards for TSC certification
  • Meet the minimum mechanical thrombectomy volume requirement
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform mechanical thrombectomy 24/7
  • Maintain dedicated intensive care beds for acute ischemic stroke patients
  • Meet the expectations for the availability of staff and practitioners closely aligned with Comprehensive Stroke Center Expectations
  • Collect and review data regarding adverse patient outcomes following mechanical thrombectomy
  • Collect data for 13 standardized performance measures
