Long before COVID-19, the World Health Organization named 2020 the Year of the Nurse and Midwife. We never could have imagined a more fitting designation. Every day I witness the incredible courage, compassion, and skill of our nurses, and I see it even more now that they are on the front lines protecting our friends and neighbors from this pandemic.
Today marks the beginning of National Nurses Week, and I hope you will join me in saying THANK YOU to our nurses who calmly address trauma in the emergency room, help to deliver babies, walk alongside people with newly replaced hips and patiently explain life-saving procedures. They stop at nothing to provide the very best in care to our community, and it is our turn to celebrate them.
Our nurses continue to set the bar for quality care across the country. In fact, Rochester Regional Health has 21 Beacon Awards for Excellence in Critical Care Nursing, which is the most of any hospital system in New York State and the nation. These talented nurses are at the center of millions of interactions with patients and their loved ones who choose us for their care. Their work changes lives.
This Nurses Week, as we recognize all the hard work and success of our nurses across the system, I ask you to consider making a donation in their honor. Your generous gift, of any amount, shows our nurses that you are standing with them as they continue to deliver critical care to our community.
