There are still plenty of ways to have fun and get into the holiday spirit this year, even as COVID-19 cases rise in our community. The best way to keep everyone safe and healthy is to celebrate with your immediate family or those living in your household in person, and virtually with anyone outside your household.

Here are some fun ideas on how to celebrate the holidays safely this year.

Go Virtual

Have a virtual visit with Santa: Schedule a 10-minute virtual visit with Santa so you can still have a safe visit with him this year.

Bake virtual cookies with your family: Share recipes and connect over zoom while you bake and decorate some tasty holiday treats!

Watch a Christmas movie with Netflix Teleparty: Netflix Teleparty allows you to stream at the same time as people outside of your household. Try planning a movie night with your extended family, connecting over zoom, and watching a holiday movie together.

Create winter and holiday crafts: At-home crafting is a great way to have some fun while staying safe. If you need supplies, consider ordering them online or contacting local art stores about their delivery options

Safe Holiday Shopping Tips

Gift-giving is a big part of holiday tradition—and that doesn’t have to change this year. However, it’s a good idea to reconsider how you shop in order to reduce the risk of illness as cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in our community.

There are plenty of ways to make your holiday shopping experience safer this year:

Shop online.

Online shopping is an easy way to get your holiday gift shopping done in a safe manner. Since it’s important to support local businesses, it’s a good idea to call your favorite local shops and inquire about online shopping and delivery options.

Beat the rush.

The best time to avoid the crowds is early in the morning, as soon as stores open. If you do plan on going to stores in person, it’s a good idea to get up early and beat the rush. The fewer people that are in the store, the less of a risk of spreading COVID-19.

Follow Protocols & Guidelines

If you plan on in-person shopping, be sure to follow safety guidelines to keep yourself and others healthy:

  • Wear a mask
  • Stay six feet apart
  • Wash your hands and sanitize frequently
  • Do not go out shopping if you’re not feeling well or if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 or flu.
