POTSDAM, NY – Certified Physician Assistant Luke Gillis (PA-C) has joined the Emergency Services Department at Canton-Potsdam Hospital (CPH) and Massena Hospital (MH).

Mr. Gillis is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and earned his Master of Science in Physician Assistance Studies degree from Clarkson University, Potsdam. He spent two of his clinical rotations at the hospitals he will now be working in – CPH and MH.

“During rotations at Canton-Potsdam and Massena hospital, the Emergency Department and hospitals as a whole were very team-oriented and supportive. I noticed this culture led to a positive experience for both our patients and the staff, and it is something I look forward to joining,” Mr. Gillis said.

Raised in rural North Carolina, he noted the North Country provides a similar community feel as to where he grew up.

“Staying in the local area after graduating from Physician Assistant school has given me a sense of familiarity and stability while starting a new career,” Mr. Gillis commented. “Constantly moving to different duty stations while I was in the United States Air Force made it difficult to establish myself in an area for an extended amount of time. Staying local gives me that comfort while growing as a provider.”

As a Physician Assistant, Mr. Gillis conducts physical examinations, diagnoses illnesses, prescribes medications, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, and performs suturing and castings.
