POTSDAM, NY – The next step in the plan for Canton Potsdam Hospital’s Regional Care Pavilion project involves the installation of controlled access gate lift arms at the intersection of Cottage Street with Leroy Street.

On Monday, September 26, the Leroy Street end of Cottage Street will be closed off as work crews trench the pavement. The surrounding section of the sidewalk will also be blocked off during this time. Travel along Leroy Street will not be impacted.

This portion of the project coincides with the planned “flip” of the Canton-Potsdam Hospital main entrance and Emergency Department entrance to Cottage Street while the construction of the Regional Care Pavilion is underway.

The phase beginning September 26 includes the installation of two controlled access lift arms, one on either side of Cottage Street from Leroy Street, operated via an emergency siren system. Card readers will also be added, restricting access from this end of Cottage Street to Emergency and Security personnel only. Hospital staff and the general public coming and going from Canton-Potsdam Hospital off Cottage Street will exit via the Waverly Street intersection.

The entrance relocation and operation of the lift arms are expected to be in place by mid-October.

Community members and neighbors with questions about the Pavilion project are asked to email the Project Committee.

The Care Pavilion web page provides updated photos and information about the project.
