POTSDAM, NY – A lot of moving pieces will be joining together at Canton-Potsdam Hospital (CPH) this coming Monday, October 17, 2022, at 6:00am. For the past several months the Hospital has been reporting on the impending shift of the Main Entrance and Emergency Entrance to the Cottage Street side of the Hospital, and the time has finally come for the move to take place.
Entrances Moving
The Main Entrance that patients and visitors have been using for many years will officially go off-line on Monday and remain closed for approximately two years during the multi-million dollar Regional Care Pavilion construction project.
As of October 17, patients and visitors to the Hospital are reminded they will need to access the new combined Emergency and Main Entrance located on Cottage Street. Signage and CPH personnel will be highly visible during the first several days of the move to assist anyone coming to the Hospital’s main campus at 50 Leroy Street.
Anyone wishing to enter the Hospital will proceed east on Cottage Street to the intersection with Waverly Street and take a right into the parking lot. For those dropping off or picking up a patient, they will be able to continue through the lot and to the main entrance to designated five-minute parking spots.
Drivers are asked to take note that the intersection of Cottage Street and Leroy Street was recently designated for authorized vehicles only. The general public will enter and leave the Hospital grounds via Cottage and Waverly streets.
Patients and visitors going to the Leroy Outpatient Center or the Center for Cancer Care will not be impacted by the transition. They will continue to park in front of both facilities as normal.
“We want to make sure everyone who comes to Canton-Potsdam Hospital knows that while things may look different outside, inside it is business as usual and no services negatively impacted,” noted St. Lawrence Health Vice President of Business Development Brent Bishop.
“If you come to the Hospital’s main campus to visit a friend or loved one, have a test or treatment, or need to be seen in the Emergency Department, you can be assured our skilled and compassionate employees are prepared to care for you and greet you like they always have,” he added.
Visitors and patients to CPH and all St. Lawrence Health facilities are reminded smoking is not permitted on the grounds.

At the end of April of this year, St. Lawrence Health transitioned to Epic, a new and modern patient records system. All SLH hospitals and provider offices adopted the Epic system, and now patients’ health records can easily and securely be shared with other health care providers within and outside SLH.
To improve the patient experience even further, Epic’s MyCare patient portal was also launched this past spring, and it offers SLH patients an easy-to-use platform. Patients can conveniently access their inpatient and outpatient records, request prescription renewals, message their provider’s office, and pay St. Lawrence Health bills online.
Providers and staff members of Canton-Potsdam, Gouverneur, and Massena hospitals can be seen well beyond the walls of their offices. They take part in regional health fairs hosted by schools, colleges/universities, businesses, and organizations; awareness walks and runs; blood drives; and give community presentations.
