POTSDAM, NY – Emergency Medicine physician Jacob Frier, MD, has joined St. Lawrence Health’s medical team and will be providing emergency care at Canton-Potsdam, Gouverneur, and Massena hospitals.

Dr. Frier earned his medical degree at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY, where he also completed the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. He is American Board of Emergency Medicine eligible.

“I grew up in the North Country and I am truly happy to be returning here to practice. The community and St. Lawrence Health have been very welcoming,” Dr. Frier said. “Working in a smaller, rural, community-based hospital system is extremely fulfilling. I will have the opportunity to become much more familiar with the patient population, and be able to take a greater responsibility in caring for my patients as a whole person, rather than just an illness to treat.

“Working in a small town setting allows for the development of a stronger doctor-patient connection, as well as with coworkers and the community in general. This area has a strong sense of belonging, and it is great how people do not hesitate to help each other out,” he added.

Dr. Frier is an avid outdoorsman, and is thrilled to be in such close proximity to excellent kayaking spots, abundant hiking trails, and the Adirondacks.

“The four seasons seem more pronounced here in the North Country, and each season has plenty of exciting activities and interesting places to visit. The region overall feels like the perfect place to raise a family and always have something fun to do,” he said.

Dr. Frier provides comprehensive care in all matters requiring immediate attention, including chest pain, stroke, and seizures. He also provides trauma care from motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, burns, allergic reactions, difficulty breathing, and infectious diseases relating to the management of viruses.
