POTSDAM, NY – Board Certified Oncologist Vetta Higgs, MD, has joined the Center for Cancer Care at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam.
Dr. Higgs is American Board of Internal Medicine Board Certified in Medical Oncology, and earned her medical degree at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, Mobile, AL. She completed her residency at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC; and received a Fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC.
“Oncology is a field that is constantly changing, so I am a life-long learner. The strong bonds I form with my patients and their families makes it such a rewarding field of medicine,” Dr. Higgs said.

Dr. Higgs comes to St. Lawrence Health with extensive experience as a medical oncologist, and previously served as an adjunct assistant professor. She has been involved in numerous research projects, and given multiple presentations within the specialty field of oncology.
Dr. Higgs is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Physicians, American Medical Association, and National Medical Association.
She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer using chemotherapy, and medically based interventions. Her practice focuses on medical oncology and hematology, including treatment of cancers common to the North Country, such as cancer of the lung, colon, and breast.
