Tayla Durant, CPNP-PC, shows five-month-old Haisley Patrick an instrument she will use to look in the infant’s eyes. Jessica Patrick holds her daughter for the examination. The Patricks reside in Brasher Falls.

BRASHER FALLS, NY – Some of her patients may not yet be talking, or are too shy to speak for themselves, but it only takes them a few minutes to warm up to this provider’s soft voice and gentle spirit.

Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care Tayla Durant provides services to infants and children at Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Brasher Falls Primary Care office, located on Main Street (899 NY 11C) in the hamlet. She further sees patients at Potsdam Pediatrics, 15 Raymond Street in Potsdam.

CPNP Durant enjoys working at the cozy Brasher Falls office, along with the larger Potsdam office. She further noted having multiple convenient locations for her patients is important to her.

“Seeing pediatric patients at both locations allows for continuity of care and expanded healthcare access to both communities, and the residents in between,” she said. “If I typically see a patient in Potsdam, they always have the option to schedule an appointment to be seen at the Brasher Falls location, and vice-versa.

“As a CPNP-PC, I am trained as a child’s primary care provider. I offer my pediatric patients routine well child appointments, sick appointments, pre-operative clearance examinations, and emergency/urgent care follow-up appointments,” Ms. Durant said.

Some common childhood conditions that may bring a little one to see Ms. Durant include viral upper respiratory infections, ear infections, conjunctivitis, atopic dermatitis, and asthma.

“Working with children truly is my passion,” she said. “One of the most rewarding things to me about pediatrics is having a front row seat to watch my patients thrive, and taking a look at the world from their point of view. I am often inspired by their creativity. Promoting health and safety to children and their families in the North Country is certainly something in which I take pride.”

Prior to becoming a CPNP-PC, Ms. Durant worked as a registered nurse with Canton-Potsdam Hospital for six years. She has been practicing in her current role for nearly three years in the North Country, and returned to CPH in April 2022.

CPNP Durant has office hours in Brasher on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, and appointments may be made by calling 315-389-5181. She also has new patient same-week appointments available in Brasher.

She has office hours in Potsdam on Tuesday and Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, and appointments may be made by calling 315-265-9271.
