Unity Hospital’s Emergency Observation Unit has achieved a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence, making the unit the first of its kind to be recognized by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) with a Beacon Award.
The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes unit caregivers for their integrated evidence-based practices to improve patient and family outcomes, and their alignment with the AACN’s Healthy Work Environment Standards: skilled communication, true collaboration, effective decision making, appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition, and authentic leadership.
The silver-level Beacon Award is a testament to the unit’s teamwork, leadership, and dedication to providing patients with the highest quality of care.
“This achievement took a lot of hard work, but the team members on our unit made it seem easy—they worked incredibly hard,” said Amy Welch, RN, Director of Nursing Services at Unity Hospital. “I hope this opens the door for other Emergency Observation Units and inspires them to apply for and win their own Beacon Award.”
Nurses on the unit are honored to receive the award and feel the recognition of their colleagues is well-deserved.
“This unit is like a family. We’re always there to support one another, and everyone in the unit is so dedicated, passionate, and hard-working,” said Tara Dimick, RN, who has worked in the Unity Observation Unit for three years.
“I’ve been a nurse for 25 years and I’ve never worked in a unit quite like this one. The range of talents and experiences make our team something special,” said Tina Johnson, RN.
We applaud the exceptional work and commitment of the caregivers in Unity Hospital’s Emergency Observation Unit and congratulate them on the incredible accomplishment.
Currently, Rochester Regional Health has 29 Beacon Awards across our hospitals, making us a national leader with the most Beacon Awards from the AACN.
