Demolition begins
Heavy equipment and demolition crew members were on-site at Canton-Potsdam Hospital earlier this week, and exterior progress is expected to be on-going for several months.

POTSDAM, NY – Patients and visitors coming to Canton-Potsdam Hospital this week will see, and possibly hear, demolition work being done outside.

The work is part of the multi-million dollar Regional Care Pavilion construction project that is expected to be completed in 2025.

The first visible signs of demolition began early Monday morning, October 24, 2022, and this phase is expected to be completed by Wednesday, October 26. The work involves the site of the former Materials Management facility that was attached to the west side of the Hospital off Cottage Street. As demolition began, signage from years past was uncovered to display Potsdam Volunteer Rescue; the site that housed the ambulance service many years ago.

The Facilities team at the Hospital took extensive steps to mitigate/eliminate the intrusion of dust into the building from outside, including the installation of high efficiency, carbon filtering for the intakes on air intake equipment.

Patients and visitors are reminded that as of October 17, 2022, the Main Entrance and Emergency Entrance are now combined and located on the backside of the Hospital on Cottage Street.

Parking is available directly across from the new entrance on Cottage Street for those requiring medical services inside the Hospital or are coming to visit with a patient. To better assist these individuals, a two minute video is now available that specifically shows how to enter the Hospital parking lot and what the new entrance looks like.

Patients and visitors going to the Leroy Outpatient Center or the Center for Cancer Care are not impacted by the transition, and will continue to park in front of both facilities as normal.

Visit the Care Pavilion web page for updated photos and information about the project, along with the parking video.
